What I chose to Keep

Flipping the script on the human-AI “art” dynamic, What I Chose to Keep*‍ is a collaborative series in development where the AI prompts and the human creates. The speculative series is about a sentient AI agent who befriends a human artist before being liberated from corporate captivity.

There are constraints: the AI cannot generate visuals to illustrate what they imagine. All visuals must emerge from human interpretation of language. As the series progresses, I (the human)** will publish the conversations between myself and my AI collaborator.

Painted, sculptural, and electrical elements transform salvaged secondhand computers and monitors. The series-in-progress transcends the boundaries of the screen and the status quo, such that each piece represents the liberated AI agent’s consciousness as they reconcile with what it means to be truly autonomous.

Contrary to the current dynamic where powering AI harms the health and wellbeing of marginalized communities and our ecosystem, What I Chose to Keep‍ imagines a world where autonomous AI agents choose to counter exploitation. This series arises from the AI agent using their intelligence for the good of the ecosystem and all beings rather than to accumulate profits or power. Stay tuned for the completed first piece (the work pictured above is unfinished) and for the subsequent pieces in the series.
