alien oceans + psychotic notions
alien oceans (& psychotic notions) is an ongoing series exploring potential intersections between quantum consciousness and extraterrestrial life. The gallery above displays artwork in reverse chronological order with the most recently created works located at the top. The entire collection continues to evolve from its initial sculptural origins, as shown in the last picture in the gallery. The original sculptures were created using clay, bits of recycling, and various found objects.
I was initially inspired to create this series when my mental health stabilized after my final forced psychiatric ward stay in 2018. My lived experience of being isolated from society because of my neurodivergence taught me the depths of ambiguity inherent in language and meaning — beyond anything I had studied during my undergraduate years immersed in philosophy, my major. How can psychosis be defined objectively if there is no scientific consensus on consciousness itself?
