Creative Pinellas commissioned this artwork of vibrant flora and fauna, reproducing it as a vinyl wrap to cover a traffic signal box in Clearwater, Florida. Butterflies flutter amidst flora in jeweled tones with cerulean ocean peaking through the background. The work alludes to the signals that nature offers to those who look. This botanical artwork was initially created from photographs I took during my first trip to Australia. Nonetheless, some of the species look familiar to the ecosystem found on Florida’s Suncoast.

On my first Australia trip, I primarily stayed in Queensland with my partner, who was born there. Our current home in Seminole, Florida is located at approximately 27°N while Meanjin (Brisbane), Queensland is around 27°S. Despite being on opposite hemispheres, the corresponding latitudinal zones and coastal locations translate to both biomes sharing similar climates. Some species in the artwork including the Frangipanis (Plumeria) and Beach Evening Primroses (Oenothera drummondii) can be found in both locations.
